Living in Canada we are lucky enough to have access to some of the world’s best drinking water. Despite this millions of Canadians decide to purchase bottled water instead of drinking water from the tap. Why is this? Perhaps it’s because there can be many trace chemicals, heavy metals and pharmaceuticals contaminating your water.
Here is a top 5 list of why many Canadians turn to bottled water instead of drinking tap.
1: Pharmaceuticals: According to the World Health Organization “Pharmaceuticals are synthetic or natural chemicals that can be found in prescription medicines, over-the-counter therapeutic drugs and veterinary drugs”. Typical Wastewater treatment facilities have anywhere from a 20-90% capacity to remove pharmaceuticals from our water. With a higher population of people taking more and more prescription drugs we should be worried about trace pharmaceuticals in our drinking water.
For a comprehensive report on pharmaceuticals in drinking water check out this report from the World Health Organization
2: Pesticides: Of course pesticides can leech into our water reserves. Many Canadians invest in eating organic fruits and vegetables to stay away from pesticides. It’s a big contradiction when traces of pesticides are then found in our water. Smaller communities are most at risk for pesticides in their water as for the most part there are inadequate water treatment facilities in these communities. Take for example British Columbia where there are over 4,000 different water suppliers many with inadequate treatment.
3: Copper/Lead: This will depend on the types of pipes delivering the water into your home. With older areas usually comes copper or lead plumbing. Who wants to be drinking trace amounts of copper or lead when having a glass of water?
4: Chlorine: Certainly it kills pathogens and microbial pollutants in the water but at a cost. Chlorine itself is not so harmful but it is the byproducts (BDPs) which could have a harmful reaction inside our bodies. Dangerous DBPs created from the chlorination of water include (THMs) and (VOCs).These byproducts can form free radicals inside of our bodies.
5: The Taste: Let’s be honest who really likes the taste of tap water. You can smell the chlorine and you could certainly taste it. In my opinion this is one of the main reasons millions of Canadians have turned to bottled water as their water alternative.
BOTTLED WATER: According to Agriculture Canada in 2009 we produced 2.29 billion liters of bottled water. Don’t be fooled by the bottled water industries extensive marketing campaigns and go out and purchase bottled water which is often times more expensive than the price of gasoline. Instead opt for a water filter and help save the environment.
WATER FILTERS: There are so many different types available on the market today. My recommendation is to invest in one that has some sort of carbon filtration for (copper & lead) and nano filtration (UF filtration or Reverse Osmosis 99% and up removal rate of Pharmaceuticals) according to the World Health Organization.
Whatever your needs; investing in a water filter is a smart eco-friendly alternative to drinking bottled water.
Water treatment/filtration system for a well. The installation of a new pump, new holding tank, 2 stage water filtration system, water softener and a UV light.
The following is a quick walk through for a whole home, well water treatment system. This system is designed for hard water, with some major discoloration caused by sediment in the well water. After examining the water test we came up with a comprehensive system that best fits the clients needs and desires. I will present to you each filtration/treatment option we used and why.
REMOVAL OF THE OLD WATER SYSTEM
The customer was telling us the water softener that was currently installed was not working very well. So after some testing of the water quality, we determined the Resin on the interior of the unit was no longer good. Instead of replacing the RESIN the customer wanted to purchase a new system and change their storage tank as well as their old water pump. We recommended a couple other upgrades and the client agreed, so off we were on the installation of the new equipment.
Step 1: NEW WATER STORAGE TANK AND PUMP.
We installed a new water storage tank with a 44 gallon capacity. This tank was more than double the size of the old storage tank and will much better meet the needs of the entire family. This tank helps with the water pressure which comes from the pump. The next step was installing the new 3/4 horsepower pump. We took the one inch copper line that comes into the home and installed a special NPT fitting for the 1 1/4 female NPT fitting that went inside the pump. ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PRIME A PUMP WHEN INSTALLING A NEW ONE!!
Step 2: New water treatment/filtration devices.
Step 1 : 2 stage 20 * 4.5 inch water filtration system with pressure gauges. Stage 1 is sediment filtration to 5 microns, to remove larger particulates in the water. Stage 2 is a activated carbon filter to remove and reduce VOCS, pesticides, herbicides as well as heavy metals to name a few.
Step 2: 40,000 grain water softener. Get's rid of the calcium and magnesium that over time will choke the plumbing in your home. The Ion exchange system creates soft water and protects your the plumbing fixtures in your home, the laundry machine, hot water tank, dishwasher and any other machine using water in your home. It also with the laundry, dishes and glassware, your skin and your hair.
Step 3: 8 GPM UV sterilizer. The use of ultraviolet light to kill any water born microorganism’s bacteria or viruses such as coloform, e.coli, cryptosporidium, or giardia.
Step 4 : Reverse Osmosis drinking water system: Offering a impressive 75 galoon per day output you can be assured that you will be drinking the best water possible.
So there it is, a comprehensive well water treatment/filtration system. With so many different treatment options in this business, the water professionals at no-bottles will be happy to provide you with some insight for any type of water questions you may have. Installation of water filtration systems on different counter-tops in Montreal. Quartz - marble - wood - laminate - Caesarstone. Yes we can do it!
With the summer finally arriving in Montreal this weekend, we are receiving more and more queries about our ability to install water filters and sparkling/cold water machines. I feel it is important we tell you, YES, we are able to install on any type of hard surface counter. We have done installations on granite, marble, quartz and caesarstone all in the last month. Yes, you do need special tools and yes we have made the investment. Depending on the type of hard surface and thickness of the counter top a typical cut for a 1/4 inch hole takes anywhere from 20-45 minutes. Don't let the idea of a difficult installation stop you from never buying a bottle of water again!

If you are ready to join the revolution and drink filtered water we would love to offer you a free in home water quality test.
One of my favorite things about joining the water treatment industry ha been learning about new technologies and systems which are offering new solutions to old problems. One of my favorite technologies has been ultra violet purification. Where membrane filters, carbon filters and sediment filters fail is in their ability to remove or reduce the amount of; protozoa, bacteria and viruses in the water. This is where UV systems, typically set up with a pre filter come into play.
According to the CDC (centre for disease control), UV systems have a "very high effectiveness in removing protozoa (for example, Cryptosporidium, Giardia) a very high effectiveness in removing bacteria (for example, Campylobacter, Salmonella, Shigella, E. coli) a high effectiveness in removing viruses (for example, Enteric, Hepatitis A, Norovirus, Rotavirus)" This a pretty extensive amount of water treatment solutions for one product to handle. This is why we are currently seeing UV technology being used in water treatment facilities across the globe. When New York City decided to upgrade it's water system and protect their residents from parasites such as; giardia and cryptosporidium they decided to do so with a 1.8 billion dollar UV disinfectant facility. Other cities are now joining in and adding this type of treatment. There are even some Canadian companies that are leading the way on both the technological side and manufacturing side of the industry. Clearford water systems is one of these companies. They have recently acquired UV pure technologies, another Canadian company, which has recently installed their treatment process in Jambudiyapura, India.
What's great about all of this is that more and more local companies are starting to offer UV treatment. At Nobottles for example, we are proud to offer our clients the ability to install a UV system on any one of the water filtration products we have available.
First let me begin by sharing a conversation I had with a friend several months ago, a little before we decided to start selling and marketing these fantastic products. It was a cold winters night in Montreal and we were all out celebrating at a birthday dinner. Sitting in front of me was a old friend I have known for many years. We began chatting about business. I mentioned to him I was going to start representing a company from Italy that manufactures soda machines. Several months later I see my friend again and he asks how business was going. I told him it was going really well and we had signed up multiple restaurants and sold dozens of units for residential and office purposes. He looked back at me in shock and asked how I was able to market my soda machines over Coca Cola and Pepsi. I then realized I really needed to change my elevator sales pitch. I am not trying to market or sell soft drinks. I am here to offer a eco-friendly alternative to a business that is so bad for the environment; the bottled water business!
Yes it is possible to no longer buy bottles of water, and I will always maintain that the water coming from the city is perfectly fine to drink. However, there is a reason the bottled water business has 178 billion dollars in sales annually. People don't want to drink tap water. Perhaps they don't like the taste, or the marketing has made them fear tap water. Whatever the case our thirst for bottled water seems unquenchable. I don't want to start pointing out all the negatives of the bottled water industry instead I wan't to let you know how good filtered water is. Filtered water is actually used in almost 1/3 rd of all bottled water on the market today. So if it's a question of taste drink filtered water.
And now you can get sparkling water right from your faucet. No more need to run to the grocery store and pick up 12 heavy bottles of Perrier or San Pellegrino. Simply install a space saving Italian made Carbonation and Coolant system under your counter and enjoy cold and sparkling filtered water directly from a faucet. It's not much harder than that. If you want to find out more check out the machines we have available.
